Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt, known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, from the Ptolemaic era Alexandria was the capital of Egypt to the Arab conquest in 641 AD. During this period, it was the center of science and literature which was shining on the Mediterranean nations. The city once had two of the most important monuments of the world which unfortunately disappeared such as the old library and the Pharos lighthouse which described as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, The library was burned and crumbling under unknown circumstances. A newly opened library was built to remind the world of the ancient memories of, it was inaugurated on October 16, 2002. On the other hand, the lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the highest monuments on the earth at that time but unfortunately it was ruined by the successive earthquakes.
